During this course the students will undertake a range of art activities including drawing, painting, art history, ceramics, photography and design. For the final assessment there are two components, an exam and coursework.
For the exam, there are two choices of paper – Observation / Interpretive or Design - the students will select one. They will be given the questions before the day of the exam so that the students can prepare their ideas. On the day of the exam the students will make a major piece of art, free to select media such as painting, drawing, collage, calligraphy, ceramics and photography/digital imagery. The examination is worth 50% of the overall grade.
The coursework assessment requires the student to focus on one area such as design, painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture. This work is done over one year in class and must include all of the research and development of ideas. The coursework is also worth 50% of the overall grade.
If a student does not want to submit coursework, then both of the design and observation/interpretive examinations could be submitted instead. There is also an option of doing a historical / critical study for those students with great interest in art theory. This option would be taken instead of coursework.
